“Dialoghi Semipresenti” talks about the melancholy caused by the mental illness of a dear aunt.
Between past and present, Aunt Rosa’s mind is slowly lost due to illness. However, reality and memory can coexist thanks to the care in a melancholy and vibrant narrative.
Through three stories apparently connected only by the same atmosphere, the book wants to communicate the semi-presence, the lack, a deep and visceral feeling.
The solution to alleviate this melancholy is the presence, being present to take care of the patient, to recognize themselves even for a moment of lucidity, present for each other.
The story begins with an abstract narrative, similar to a genesis. The episodes become more and more concrete both for the narrated facts and for the style used.
The presence and absence are visualized with the technique of monotypy, softer and brighter, and charcoal, direct, material and melancholic.
“Dialoghi Semipresenti” was awarded by Galileo Editore for Grano Contest – Graphic Novel 2024. The competition, organized every year by the publishing house, aims to reward emerging authors.
